Pen Kits and Accessories
The Peptide Pen Kit is supplied empty (no peptide) and includes a disposable pen, an empty 3mL cartridge, 10mL bacteriostatic water and 10 pen needles. Travel pouches and vial cases are listed separately.
What Is a Pre-Formatted Research Pen?
A pre-formatted research pen holds a stated amount of a compound in a pen-style cartridge. Labs pick the pen format to cut down on reconstitution steps and keep preparation consistent from run to run. The vial format supplies lyophilized material that the lab prepares itself.
Pen vs Vial
| Research pen | Vial | |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation | Fewer handling steps | Lab prepares its own concentration |
| Consistency | Standardized format | Depends on lab preparation |
| Flexibility | Fixed stated amount | Flexible study design |
| Accessories | Pen kit, needles, case | Bacteriostatic water, vial case |
Most pen compounds are also listed as vials. See all peptides to compare.
How to Choose a Research Pen
- Choose the compound your protocol calls for.
- Check the stated amount and any strength options on the listing.
- Review the batch COA on the product page.
- Add any accessories you need, such as a case or pen kit.
- Confirm each item and strength in your cart before checkout.
Batch Documentation and COAs
Where a certificate of analysis (COA) is published for a pen batch, it appears on the product page and in the COA library. A useful COA check has four parts:
- Match the product name and strength on the COA to the listing in your cart.
- Match the batch or lot number to the batch you receive.
- Check the test method (for example HPLC for purity and mass spectrometry for identity) and the reported result.
- Check the test date and the name of the lab that ran it.
See Lab Standards for how Axon publishes testing documentation, and How to Read and Verify a Peptide COA for a longer walkthrough.
Storage and Handling Basics
Follow the storage instructions on the label and product page for each item. As general laboratory practice for pens:
- Keep unopened product sealed, dry and away from direct light and heat.
- Log the batch number and the date each item is received and opened.
- Use clean technique and single-use consumables when handling.
- Label any prepared material with the compound, concentration, date and batch.
- Dispose of used consumables and expired material according to your facility rules.
